Well! I'm finally getting around to posting my intro.
Let's see..
Well I'm 34, I've been pagan all my life BUT I didn't really know what to call it until I was 14.. I always had questions since I could remember about the faith of my family (which is protestant mainly), and nobody could ever answer them. I recall reading Greek myth when I was around the age of 9 at school, and asking adults "why don't people still believe in Zeus and the rest of the Gods..?" and nobody knew had a satisfying answer, or no answer at all.
At the age of 14 I had a paper route which meant I had my own meager earnings. I went to a book store at the mall, and found Scott Cunningham's books.. which I promptly began to collect when I would have spare cash. I finally had sort of discovered something that made sense, and apparently I wasn't the only one who thought this way. I was elated.
Skipping ahead to college, I discovered on the internet (which was just a baby internet at the time, and only just becoming a house hold thing) in the mid 1990's. I found that Wicca wasn't the only thing out there, and began to try to discover other pathways. My main issue with Scott Cunningham is his duo-theism, meaning "All gods are one god, all goddesses are one goddess". That didn't quite feel right to me, because in the Greek myths I had become familiar with, they were most assuredly they own deities, not all are one deity. They would interact with each other, and so forth. So, I gradually eased into the reconstructionist paths.. starting with Celtic paganism, which at the time seemed well rounded, I was very attracted to certain deities (Lugh and Brid mainly) and I was drawing on my Irish ancestry for inspiration.
Skipping ahead a little bit more, I was a frequent flyer of some AOL chatrooms when we had AOL, and on them I met a woman who went by "TheBodiceGoddess", Carla. Carla and I became friends, and I knew she was Asatru, the only one in the chatroom which was mainly wiccans. I became interested, and began asking her questions. She provided me with tools to find the answers.. I respected her for doing that.
I was then Asatru for a good 6 years. I decided to step away when it seemed like the people I met thought they were bigger than the path itself, to put it mildly. I had met a lot of great people but decided I was better off not catagorizing myself with retards.. and also I was feeling a pull back to the Celtic deities. So I decided to formally 'part ways' with Asatru with a ceremony. I felt a lot of resistance. It was civil, and not threatening, but more like "You're family now, and you aren't going anywhere, and plus.. WE called YOU.. so leaving isn't up to YOU.." I also felt that because I was developing a relationship with Loki, I wasn't "Fit" to be Asatru, since many look at him worse than christians look at the devil. Odin is my main patron, but I don't have a specific matron in the Norse tradition. Odin and I have a strange 'relationship' .. he's not at all dad-like, or friend-like, he's not a typical teacher, he has a touch of madness in him, and I guess you could say he's let me peer into that void of madness, and it's overwhelming.
Moving on.. Eris is one of my matrons.. I am partly Discordian. I had been reading various discordian texts, and as it was making strange sense to me (if you have ever read The Principia Discordia, you know that it either makes perfect sense or none at all) and I decided I would joking ask Eris, out loud, if I was Discordian.. Well.. Eris has a funny sense of humor. I got up after having asked if I was Discordian and went to the bathroom. I came back to sit and finish reading what I had been reading, I sat down. And my favorite stretchy comfy pajama pants ripped a HUGE hole in the inner leg. They weren't that old, or wore out, so I can only imagine it was Eris.. yelling at me with a resounding YES YOU ARE DISCORDIAN! hahahaha So she makes my life interesting..
Recently, I've been a member of ADF trying to sort out where my path truly lays. I've been trying to sort of reconnect with my Celtic-side, because the pull is still there, and the ADF was letting me see that you can sort of be 'both' in a way without feeling stupid about it. I don't know that I would call myself eclectic, but I do like what Raymond said about being a radical polytheist..
As far as Celtic deities, as I said Lugh and Brid are the two I feel most connected to, also The Dagda, and a few other minor deities of the Tuatha Dé Danann.
I also firmly believe in honoring the otherwordly beings, and ancestors.
My other interests are varying a lot.. if you can't tell I'm an avid player of World of Warcraft, I enjoy geek stuff, I love animals, my music tastes vary greatly the only two music types I can say I'm not very into are country and rap. I do like punk, metal, rock, classic rock, dutch gabber, trance, house, 70's, 80's new wave, 80's hair bands, Lady Gaga, some R&B, some new stuff but mostly old stuff, and classical.
My favorite tv shows are Family guy, the occasional Dr. Who (I'm so far behind it's not funny), I adored LOST when it was on, Being Human (american version, haven't seen the english one), and The Walking Dead. I'm sure there are probably others I watch, but I'm not a huge tv watcher, and these are the only ones coming to mind.. I like scary movies, comedies, action films, sometimes drama.
I am currently unemployed but I have a CNA (certified nurse's aide) license, I've worked in nursing homes, and a hospital on nearly all the units except for labor and delivery and the emergency room. I enjoyed working in intensive care, but it was also my breaking point. So my last job was in a nursing home, I left it and I miss it. I miss my co workers and they miss me, as do my residents, and quite a few of the nurses. I left because we moved and I'm taking some time off. It's stressful, but I love it.
I have an 8 year old son, he has some problems with hearing and speech, but he's in a regular classroom for most of the day and a special class for part of the day for speech therapy and stuff. He is a straigh A student, and I have the pics up on facebook to prove it!
I'm proud of him.
I have 2 cats and several fish (platies and 2 loaches, an upside down catfish, and some others.. ) I have a 30 gallon fish tank, and I've been working on cleaning it all morning.. cuz the water has been green and we haven't had extra money for me to get the proper stuff to clean it.. and last night we bought what I needed.. so fun filled day of water changing and so forth. poor fishies.. they're happier now that I'm able to get them sorted out.. got a new filter and everything cuz I don't think the old one was working right, and it was more than just changing the inserts..
anything else you've just got to ask.. otherwise I will end up writing a novel here. I think I already have.. hahahaha
